The daughter of Palmer and Rebecca Lutz Cox was born May 17, 1929 in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. As a child, Rozella's family moved often. They lived in places such as Colorado, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Nevada. While in Nevada, Rozella began giving donuts to servicemen on the train who were going off to war. This earned her the nick name of Donut Queen. It was while they were in Nevada that her cousin introduced her to a young serviceman named Merrit "Corky" Lunsford. They would marry on April 3, 1948, at the Hitchin' Post in Las Vegas. Over the next several years Rozella and Corky moved to several bases across the states. When he left for Vietnam, Rozella moved from Florida to Claremore to be near his family. It was during this time that Rozella had to fill the role of two parents. It was her priortiy to make sure her children were well cared for. Upon Corky's discharge the family again relocated back to Las Vegas. However, their time there was short lived, and they returned to Claremore for good.
