Carter Duvall

January 7, 1936 — October 14, 2016

Memorial service for Carter Duvall will be 12 p.m., Wed., Oct. 19, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel.

Carter was born January 7, 1936 in Porter, Oklahoma to Fred Duvall and Dale (Carter) Duvall. He passed away peacefully at his home on October 14, 2016.

Mr. Duvall graduated from Vian High School in 1954. He was a member of FFA and showed cattle in the county fair. After his grandfather passed away in 1950, at the age of 14 years, he took over the responsibilities of handling everything on the family farm in rural Vian, Oklahoma. He and his mother moved to rural Claremore in 1960 to a farm out in the country, where he would spend the rest of his life.

He joined the National Guard for a short time in the late 1950’s, but he was forced to file a hardship request to take care of his mother.

Mr. Duvall was a finish carpenter, working all over Tulsa County, Broken Arrow, and Rogers County until his retirement. At the same time, he and his mother, along with his other family operated a nearly 200 acre farm. He loved his farm, and was passionate about his cattle, raising his own hay and every year raising a large garden, and fruit trees.

When he retired from the carpentry business, he continued to raise cattle and care for his mother in her declining years, became a beekeeper, dabbled in photography, and star gazing. He kept his cattle until the past couple of years, when his health forced him to stop. His love for the simple life was what drove him to live on the farm until his last days.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father.

Carter is survived by his sister, Mrs. Joye Helt, of Claremore, his nephew Michael Quinton, of Claremore, his nieces, Kellye Quinton Prout, of Claremore, and Sherry Quinton Berndt, of Pittsburg, Kansas. He is also survived by other nieces, and nephews, and multiple cousins.
