Following her education, Dorothy married J. Frank Smith in a Chelsea ceremony on December 6, 1938. The couple made their home in Chelsea before moving to a farm west of Vinita. Later, Mr. Smith took a job in Kansas and they spent several years living there before returning to Oklahoma, settling in Adair, and this has been home since.
A hard worker and wonderful mother, Dorothy took great care of her family. She was also a talented seamstress, and made a lot of her children’s clothes. Dorothy loved to cook, and her family enjoyed her chicken and noodles and her pies and cakes. She spent time working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She could grow delicious tomatoes, which she canned. Dorothy was able to stay in her own home and take care of herself through the years and even mowed and weeded her own yard until her early 90’s.

Those family members that survive include her children Virginia Chadrick of Cherokee, Oklahoma, Elaine Flinsbaugh and husband George of Winfield, Kansas and Dennis Smith and wife Janice of Midwest City, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and her brother, Kenneth Bible and wife Dixie of Vinita.
