December 9, 1925 — April 30, 2017

Funeral service for Harrison Charles Benton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs.

Harrison passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the age of 91.

The son of Harry and Golda Clugston Benton was born December 9, 1925 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. There he attended Sand Springs schools, graduating with the class of 1945. Immediately after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge, he returned home to Sand Springs. He then began his working career at a local Ford dealership, where he worked in the parts department. Over the next few years, Harrison would also work with his family building homes, as well as running a couple of service stations. He would eventually move to Inola, where he owned and operated two Texaco service stations. However, if you asked him what his job was, he would always respond that he was a farmer and rancher. He had owned horses and cattle since the age of 15, and was proud of all the animals he had raised.

In the mid 1960's Harrison moved to Inola. There he would meet and marry Yvonne Stout. Upon this marriage, he became a step-father to two children, whom he always cared about.

In his spare time, Harrison devoted numerous hours to many causes, such as the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association, and Oklahoma Farm Bureau, where he served as an officer. When he wasn't volunteering his time, he enjoyed working on cars, reading western and history novels, and his favorite pastime of all was spending time with his dogs and horses.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Golda Benton, and brothers Bob and Fred Benton.

Survivors include his nieces, Sandy Melton of Claremore, and Kathy Riggle of Tulsa.
