Service for Marjorie Lee Sumter will be 10:00a.m., Monday, May 22, 2017 at Claremore Assembly of God Church; burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday, May 21, from 1pm--6pm, with family receiving visitors from 4pm--6pm. Marjorie passed away at her home on Monday, May 16, 2017. She was 82.

Born May 11, 1935 in Blue Jacket, Oklahoma to Elbert Houston and Opal Marguerite (Johnson) Jones, Marjorie graduated from Claremore High School with the class of 1953. On July 11, 1954 Marjorie married Troy Samuel Sumter and together raised their 3 children. She began her working career as a teller for 1st National Bank in Claremore, later she worked for Admiral State Bank, where she earned the title of Vice President. In 1977 she and Troy bought East Side Grocery and operated it until 1988. After selling the store, Marjorie lovingly cared for her mother-in-law, Elta Sumter and later her sister Marguerite Lane.

Marjorie's priority in life was her beloved family to which she was totally devoted to. She was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church for more than 20 years. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting and ceramics. Marjorie enjoyed traveling with her husband to Colorado and Branson, Missouri. Her grandchildren loved their nana and nana's noodles and cinnamon rolls. If you were friends with her children and grandchildren, you also knew Marjorie as nana.

Those family members that survive include her husband, Troy of their home in Locust Grove; her children Kevin Sumter and wife Darla also of Locust Grove, DeLinda Alonso and Marty Hanna of Owasso and Mark Sumter and wife Shelly of Norman; her grandchildren Ryan Alonso and wife Amy of Skiatook, Amber Nissen and husband Jared of Collinsville, Kristen Holland and husband Josh of Broken Arrow, Drew Sumter, Matthew Sumter and Katie Sumter all of Norman; her great grandchildren Breanna and Troy Nissen, Kai, Jude and Jett Holland and Addison and Samuel Alonso; her brother Gerald Jones of Tulsa; sister-in-laws Joyce Jones of Claremore, Loretta Evans and husband Eddie also of Claremore, Mary Etta and husband Fred Thurman of Catoosa and Johnie Sue Scott and husband Ron of Claremore and a host of nieces and nephews near and dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Gene Jones and Kenny Jones and sisters Marguerite Lane and Louise Clark.
