Marvin passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the age of 84.
The son of Ray and Ruby Chance Waldrup, was born September 24, 1931 in Coweta, Oklahoma. He was raised near Wagoner and attended Wagoner schools. He graduated as a member of the class of 1949. Growing up Marvin was part of a local boxing club. This earned him a scholarship to attend Northeastern State University. In addition, he became a Golden Glove Boxer in Wagoner. In 1950 he met Alfie Monroe in Inola at a baseball game. They married October 7, 1950 in Muskogee. For a short time the couple made their home in Inola before moving to Winganon. There he would make the commute to Tulsa, where he was employed as an aircraft mechanic at McDonell Douglas. This was in addition to taking care of the family farm.
After raising his children and years of living on the farm Marvin decided it was time for a change. So Marvin sold the farm and he and Alfie moved to Lake Hudson. For a few more years he made the drive to Tulsa before retiring in 1986. A short time later they moved from the lake to Pryor. This made it more convenient for him to work on his favorite pastime, golf. Weather permitting he played Pryor Creek Golf course every day. If he wasn't playing, he was watching it on tv. Golf became his passion and he loved telling the story about he and his brother going to watch the Masters.
After several years in Pryor, Marvin decided it was time to return home to Chelsea. There he became an active part of the Chelsea Baptist Church and the Chelsea Senior Citizens.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ruby Waldrup and brother, Harold Waldrup.
He is survived by his wife Alfie of the home; children, Richard Waldrup and wife Judy, Wanda Girten and husband Tom and Curtis Waldrup all of Chelsea; grandchildren, Michael Waldrup, Brandi Payne, Jerad Girten,Tiffany Riddle, Brody Waldrup, and Melissa Boyle; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Wayne Waldrup, sister's Marilyn Bretz, Sonja Stillwell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
