Graveside services for Nena Mason will be 10:00a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Inola Funeral Home and Crematory. Pastor David Cloeter will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, January 23, from 1pm—8pm with family receiving visitors form 6pm—8pm. Nena passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the age of 52.
Nena Gail Mason was born July 17, 1962 in Tulsa, to John Ross and Norma Lee (Hogness) Blackburn. She was reared and educated in her birth community and attended John Ross Elementary, Bell Jr. High, Rogers High and graduated from Nathen Hale High School with the class of 1979. She continued her education at Tulsa Community College. While in high school she was the bands featured twirler. Nena was known for taking in stray animals and never turned down an opportunity to help an injured bird, cat or dog. Her kind and loving nature spilled out when her children came along and nothing was more enjoyable for Nena than spending time with her grandchildren. On January 22, 1999, Nena married the love of her life, Manuel Ray Mason. She loved being outdoors; fishing and bird watching were a few of the things she enjoyed, along with trips to Yellowstone National Park. Nena became a great photographer, documenting her outings with lots of photos.
Nena is survived by her children Sabrina Hickman and Chad Hickman both of Tulsa; her grandchildren Ayah, Ayden, Josiah and Josey Aldarwish, Zane Hickman, and Kason Hickman; her mother Norma Blackburn of Broken Arrow; her brothers Terry Staber of Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, Danny Blackburn of Claremore, Jon Blackburn of Dallas, Texas, Paul Blackburn and Mathew Blackburn both of Broken Arrow and her sister DeEtte Kuswane of Bronx, New York. Nena was preceded in death by her father and her husband Manuel Mason.
