Funeral service for Shirley Dean Roberts will be 10 a.m., Thursday, April 23, at the MMS-Payne Funeral Chapel with Warren Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at the Roberts Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Shirley passed away Sat., April 18, 2015, at her home at the age of 78.
The daughter of Bill J. Sallee and Pearl Ellen (Malone) Sallee was born June 22, 1936, in Claremore. Shirley attended Oologah schools, and during harvest time the family followed the harvest. While picking up her mom one day at the Lazy D Cafe Shirley met John Roberts. They were married on June 25, 1955, in Claremore. They made their home in rural Claremore, moving to their current home in 1966. In 1973, she joined the Rogers County Election Board. She held various positions through the years, with precinct inspector the longest. She retired around 2011. Shirley was a member of the VFW Post 2976 Ladies Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge #22. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, playing slots, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and brothers: Odell, Dwight, and Waymon Sallee.
Shirley is survived by her children: Vonda Deason and husband, Jeff of Tulsa, Mike Roberts and wife, Debbie of Chelsea, Diana Jones and husband, Harold of Chelsea, and Norma "George" Brown and husband, Charlie of Foyil; sisters-in-law: Delores Sallee of Gold Hill, OR, and Shirley Sallee of Nowata; grandchildren: John Deason and wife, Jennifer of Tulsa, Mindy Hedges and husband, Buster of Claremore, Jody Baker and husband, Greg of Claremore, Jennifer Roberts of Tulsa, Mike Roberts and wife, Kayce of Chelsea, Cheryl Cross and husband, Tim of Japan, and Pam Brown of Foyil; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Brody, and Jacob Deason of Tulsa, Tristan, Avery, and Jase Hedges of Claremore, Morgan and Caleb Baker of Claremore, Carson Cross of Japan, Tate Burns of Foyil, and John Roberts of Chelsea; lifelong sister friend, Daisy Anderson of Claremore; personal mailman, Kelly St.. John of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews.
