Shorty Dunlap

Graveside service for Lawrence Wayne "Shorty" Dunlap will be 11:00a.m., Monday, May 2, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pastor Weldon Foster will share words of comfort. Family will greet friends 3-6 p.m., Sun., at the Elk's Lodge.

Shorty passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Muskogee Veterans Center at the age of 76.

Born to Willard Houston and Margaret Jewel (Mingus) Dunlap on October 27, 1939 in Claremore, He attended Claremore High School graduating with the class of 1959. He continued his education by attending OSU Tech, in Okmulgee studying to be a diesel mechanic. He then was called to serve in the United States Army. Upon his discharge Shorty returned to Claremore and continued to work for his dad at Dunlap Body Shop. He also worked for McDonnell Douglas and American Airlines . On May 23, 1967, Shorty married Pamela Stringer in Carthage, Missouri, the couple made their home in Claremore.

Shorty was very involved with his hometown. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2976, Rout 66 Auto Club, American Legion 0182 and the Elks Club. He loved planning the high school reunions and enjoyed seeing his friends at Cafe Flores and the many social events he attended. You also saw him at the different parades through the year, driving his one of his restored trucks or car. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling with Pam; and he treasured time spent with his family. He looked forward to picking up his grandchildren, Tyler and Allison, from school.

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Pam.

Those family members that survive include his sons Trey Dunlap and wife Tammy and Tommy Dunlap and Cathi Edwards; his sister Wanda Hysmith and husband Bruce; his grandchildren Traci, Tiffany, Timber, Tandi, Trey, Tyler and Allison and 13 great grandchildren.
