Anthony Earl West known to many as Tony passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age of 65.
The son of Earl and Mary Patterson West was born on March 26, 1951 in Newalla, Oklahoma. There he was raised and began attending elementary school. With no high school in Newalla, Tony transferred to Harrah High School. There he accelerated in sports, especially in football and baseball. He graduated from there as a member of the class of 1969. Wanting to continue his education, he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. While there he found work as a bell hop at a local hotel. That job however was short lived. Tony was offered a job working for the Frisco Railroad. This led him to leave college and start his working career. The next few years found him living in Dell City working at the rail yard. After a few years he was accepted in to railroad engineer school and moved to Sandsprings. He lived in the rural Tulsa area until moving to Chelsea in 1986. In 2000 after nearly 30 years as a rail road engineer he retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
After retirement, Tony then had more time to concentrate on his favorite pastimes. He loved building things. With more time to devote to his farm, he built the majority of the roads and barns. He even started building his current home, that he moved into in 2011. Raising quarter horses, and gardening were also some of his hobbies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Louise, and son Josh West.
Survivors include his children, Amie West of Oklahoma City, Monica Phibbs and husband Patrick of Tulsa, and Jared West and wife Amanda of Kingsland, Georgia; grandchildren, Anthony, Teagan, Alexandra, Avery, Abby, Brendan, Annabella, and Landon; brother, Michael West and nieces and nephews, Mike, Curtis Jeannine, Maurice, Lillie, and Rita West and Mary Martin along with many other extended family.
