Virginia Key

January 6, 1919 — November 29, 2016

Funeral service for Virginia "Gin" Key will be 2 p.m., Monday, December 5, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tom Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday 1-6 p.m., and family will greet friends 2-4 p.m.

Born to Emmett Jefferson Burd and Esther (Wood) Burd in Claremore on January 6, 1919. She was the fourth of five children born to her parents. She married William Robert (Bob) Key on October 30, 1938, and they had two children: JoAnn and Bobby.

Virginia has lived nearly six years in assisted living. She has been able to care for herself until she broke her hip on October 27th, 2016.

She and Bob enjoyed family gatherings and they loved to fish. Once they retired from their ranching lives, they spent a lot of time fishing, having fish fry's, and entertaining family and friends with great fish dinners.

Virginia is a member of Sequoyah Baptist Church and she was an active member until her strokes and health declined.

At 97 years of age she has enjoyed games of Bingo, WaHoo, Skip-O, and other activities at her previous living arrangements and at Homestead of Owasso where she was greatly loved and cared for. The family would like to recognize those caregivers at Homestead and also to Physician Choice Hospice of whom took care of her and showed her their love and concern for the whole family. These two organizations are truly a blessing to the family. We can never thank them enough for their help and service to our momma.

Our momma went home to be with the Lord on November 29th, 2016, in her sleep. We thank God and everyone for their prayers and for their expressions of love in cards, flowers, and attendance today. We are so gratefull for your show of honor to her.

Thank you and God Bless.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; and her siblings: Floyd Burd, Louise Scotton, Theo Burd, and Everett Burd.
