Annie Jones

Annie Elizabeth (Heltzel) Jones passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 86 years, 2 months, 3 weeks and 6 days. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Chelsea, with the Reverend Skip McClain officiating. Burial will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 24th, from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

The daughter of William Francis and Mamie Fern (Finnel) Heltzel was born July 25th, 1932 in Ketchum, Oklahoma. Her childhood was spent in the Ketchum and Vinita area. Upon finishing school, Annie began working as a waitress. Some time after that, she was co-operator of the Hartley Ranch. Soon she would take a job as a Nurse's Aide at Eastern State Hospital where she worked for more than 25 years. She would also work at Cinch Connectors while continuing to work at Eastern State Hospital. Upon leaving the Eastern State Hospital, Annie would work in a Nursing Center and continue her employment with Cinch.

In the early part of 1979, Annie met Harvey Jones. They would marry on September 14th, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma. The newly wed couple then made their home in Chelsea for the next 39 years. Throughout her life Annie was a caregiver. Annie was not one to sit still. She enjoyed making jewelry, painting, planting flowers and crocheting. She also enjoyed cooking and prepared many meals with the vegetables from the garden she and Harvey would tend. Annie loved going to the Farmer's Market and visiting with her Very Special Friend, "Nim", who called Annie “Ma Ma.” Another one of Annie's favorite things to do was to watch Kansas City Chiefs Football, as well as caring for her dog who she lovingly referred to as, “The Little Boy!”

Annie was preceded in death by her parents: William Francis and Mamie Fern Heltzel; son, Freddie Leon Barney; brothers, Alvin, Joe, Gordon, Wayne, and Lantie; sisters Emma Harp and Eva Bethel.

Annie is survived by her husband of 39 years: Harvey Jones; “The Little Boy - Toby”; step-son Ted Jones and wife Retha of Chelsea; sister Charlotte Woolman and husband Vernon of Vinita; brother John Heltzel and wife Jackie of Chelsea; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
