Betty Corn Brown

Memorial service for Betty Lee (Corn) Brown will be 2 p.m., Tues., May 1, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel.

Betty died Mon., April 23, 2012, at Wood Manor Nursing Home at the age of 79.

The daughter of Verna and Vesta (Lee) Francisco was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Rocky Comfort, MO. While in high school she enjoyed playing basketball and cheerleading. She graduated from Rocky Comfort High School in 1950. At the age of 19, Betty moved to San Francisco where she met and married Carl Corn. They had a son together, Carl Corn, Jr. They later moved to Oklahoma, where Betty went to work for American Airlines and later Rockwell International. After attending business school, Betty went into business for herself by purchasing Corn's Western Wear. She was in business for 35 years. She was a member of the Claremore Round-up Club for 15 years; and served as a sponsor and on the Board of Directors. She provided belt buckles for many of the rodeos. In 1994, she met her husband, Terry George Brown. They were married on July 6, 2002, in Pigeon Forge, TN. Betty enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, and taking care of her dogs and cat. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she took great care in decorating her home. In 1985, Betty designed and built her home that she was very proud of. She loved horses, and owned a Tennessee Walker for many years. Betty also enjoyed working with ceramics, and owned her own kiln. She sold many of her finished works at her store. Betty and Terry enjoyed country western dancing together.

Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Corn; second husband, Larry Evans; and her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Brown of the home; son, Carl Corn, Jr. and wife, Christy and family of Catoosa; step-son, Alan Brown and wife, Margie of Jefferson City, MO; step-granddaughter, Maria Brown; brother, Leroy Francisco of Joplin, MO; and sisters: Beatrice Land of Joplin, MO, and Dolly Odorizzi and husband, David of Hayes City, KS.
