Dorothy Rhoda Turner

Funeral service for Dorothy Turner will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Inola.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Inola under the direction of Inola Funeral Home & Crematory.  Visitation will be held from 1-6 p.m on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Inola Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m.
Dorothy Rhoda Turner passed away on Monday, November 19th, 2018 at the age of 80.
Dorothy, the daughter of Richard and Annie Rigby Holding, was born February 5th, 1938, in St. Helens, England.  She was raised in the village of Rainford, where she later attended school.  During World War II, Dorothy and her family took refuge in underground shelters while the Germans bombed England.  Some years later, Dorothy's sister married a U.S. soldier stationed in England and moved with him to the States. Dorothy and her family came to visit a short time later.  Upon their return home, Dorothy's father sold everything they owned and boarded a ship to the United States.  They landed in Arkansas, eventually making their way to Tulsa, Oklahoma. While living in Tulsa she began working for the Zebco Corporation.  She befriended a gentleman at work who introduced her to his brother, Paul Turner.  They began dating, and married on November 24, 1956.  A few years later, in 1962,  Dorothy achieved her goal of becoming a United States Citizen.  In 1968, she and her family purchased a farm in Inola and made it their new home.  Raising her family became her primary job, but she found herself managing the poultry farm with thousands of chickens, helping raise the cattle, and tending to the large garden.  As her children grew older, she began working at the Inola Town Library.  For the next 17 years, she helped bring the library up to modern standards.
She loved knitting in her spare time.  All of her family members possess numerous items made specifically for them.  She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women’s group. She enjoyed reading books, flower gardening, playing pool, and helping people whenever possible.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Annie; sister, Glenda Pierce; husband, Paul Turner; and sons, David and Richard Turner.
Survivors include son Michael Turner and his wife Martina, son Andrew Turner and his wife Janet;  daughter-in-law, Cheryl Turner; grandchildren, Zeke, Luke, Lindsay, Braden and Anna Turner, and many other extended family members.
