Graveside service for Chelsea resident, Ellen Ethel Pope will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Winganon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 pm on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Chelsea Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Ellen passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at her home. She was 69 years old.
The daughter of Walter Larison and Mable Irene(Barnes) Pope, Ellen was born November 23, 1949. She grew up and attended Chelsea schools, graduating with the class of 1968. On April 4, 1967, she married Tom Pope at the Baptist Church of Chelsea. The couple lived in Claremore and Sallisaw, before settling in Chelsea.
Ellen held several jobs through the years. At one time she ran a beauty shop out of her home. She studied computers at RSU, and she also worked as a CNA at Chelsea Nursing Home, Claremore Veterans Center, and the Home of Hope in Vinita. She was co partner of a dairy in the Chelsea area while working at the Vinita Walmart. But most of all, she enjoyed being a stay at home wife and mother. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, and spending time with horses.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Stacy Pope, and grandson Dustin Pope.
Survivors include her husband Tom Pope, and son Chad Pope and daughter in law Carey Pope
