Everett "Leo" Kirkley � 85
Born to Frenchie and Hallie Kirkley January 7th 1935 in Claremore Ok., Everett left this earth bound for glory from his hometown of Claremore on Sunday April 19th 2020. Services are to be held at a later date.
After being raised in Claremore Everett joined the U.S. Navy in Nov. 1952 and proudly served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars aboard the USS Montrail. It was while on Leave during the Fall of 1954 he married his love, the late Elva L. Haynes of Oologah. To this marriage three Children were born. Mary Carol, Patricia Lea, and Donald Gene. Upon completion of his Naval service in 1955 Everett worked full time for the Powder plant in Pryor, Ok. followed by being an Officer on the Pryor Police Dept. In late 1961 Everett moved his family to Enid, Ok. where he began a long career of public service first with the Vance AFB Fire Dept., eventually retiring as Deputy Chief of the Enid Fire Dept. in July 1987. Everett kept busy on his days off from the Fire service by working multiple part-time jobs to include working for, Leon Cook Memorial Company, Don Kelley Electric, and Champlin Enterprises. It was shortly after the death of his wife Elva in the fall of 1988 that Everett returned to his home town of Claremore where he resided until the time of his death. While living in Enid, Everett was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served on multiple committees and as a Deacon.
In the Summer of 1991 Everett married a second time, this time to Marjorie "Marge" Ray. Everett and Marjorie were married and made their home in Claremore for 29 years until Marjorie preceded Everett in death by just six days, passing herself on April 13th 2020.
Everett enjoyed Camping with Marge and friends in his RV and was an active member of several camping clubs. He also enjoyed Fishing and helping others. One of his favorite things was hosting large 4th of July and Christmas events on their property just east of Claremore.
Everett is survived by his Three Children, Mary Carol Ellis of Sherman, Tex., Patricia Lea Carothers and husband David of Blanchard, Ok., and Donald Gene Kirkley and wife Angella of Enid, Ok. He also leaves Step-son James Lee Griswald of Claremore, Ok., Step-daughter Lucy Rae Martin and her Husband Gary of Foyle, Ok., one Brother Lowell Kirkley and wife Dorthy of Belton Tx., & one Sister Doris Stender of Choteau, Ok., as well as dozens of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by his Parents, Brothers Jim, Robert & Dale Kirkley, Sister Ruth Lamb, as well as his First and Second wives Elva and Marjorie, Step-Daughter Lisa Saylor and Son-in-Law Charley Ellis Jr.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorial donations can be made to the J.R. Hooper Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter in Claremore Ok., or any charity of the giver's choice.
