George Marion Green

George Marion Green, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer.
George was born on March 10, 1934 in Oologah, Oklahoma, to Charles Francis and Evelyn Alice Baldwin Green. George was raised in Sageeyah, OK on the land his family had farmed since the 1880’s alongside his father and brother. He attended school at Sageeyah, Sequoyah, and Claremore.
At age 19 he was drafted and traveled by boat to Korea where he served in the 13th Field Artillery Battalion of the US Army for 18 months and continued serving as a reserve for the next eight years.
After his overseas service, he worked heavy construction and went on to work on the building of the Oologah Dam. He stayed with the Army Corps of Engineers on Oologah Lake for 30 years until his retirement. George continued to farm his family land during that time, growing wheat and soybeans.
George married Margaret Whitener in December of 1956. They made their home in Sageeyah and three daughters were born of their union. Many happy memories were made as they lived among family, farming, hunting, fishing, and camping together. Some of their favorite hobbies together were going to car shows in his vintage 1938 Ford Coupe, taking his Harley Davidson on many trips, and kicking up their heels on the dance floor. They always took a little time off the farm to spend the summer at Rockaway Beach, MO, and loved to watch their daughters compete on the rodeo circuit. George and Margaret were happily married for 38 years when she passed away in April of 1994.
In 1995, George married Judith Huchteman and welcomed her children, Kim, Scott, and Dana to the family. George and Judy loved to camp, taking many RV trips to East Texas and Colorado. Both proud Cherokee Nation Citizens, a highlight of their time together was a trip to Washington DC as a member of the Cherokee Honor Flight.
They embraced their retirement years with enthusiasm, attending grandchildren’s sporting events, traveling with friends, and listening to bluegrass music.
George was an active member of the Oologah Masons and the Akdar Shrine. He loved his time as a bus driver for First Baptist Church of Claremore and its various ministries. George had a memory like a steel trap and loved nothing better than to entertain his audience with stories about the old days. He loved to be with people and could often be found dropping in to chat with his family, friends and neighbors.
George was preceded in death by his father and mother, as well as his four siblings Nell Green Griffin, Conde (“Bud”) Green, Ruth Green Patrick, Iris Green Marcum; and his wife Margaret Green of Claremore. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Judy Green, his daughters Stacey Stearns and husband Steve, Kim Edwards and husband Joe, and Marvonne Roberts and Fiancée Jeff Begley; his own eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; as well as many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George’s memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, June 30th at First Baptist Church of Claremore.
