Jack Edward Weyler

Jack Weyler passed away at the Post-Acute Medical Hospital in Tulsa on May 28, 2022. He was 93 years old.

Jack was born in Fowlerton, Indiana on March 25, 1929, the son of Andrew Jackson Weyler and Vera (Swoverland) Weyler. He was the oldest of five children including two brothers and two sisters. Born of humble beginnings, Jack spent time as most kids did in the depression era playing baseball and helping the family with various chores. He attended Tipton Elementary, Central Jr. High and Huntington High School, all in Huntington, IN, graduating in 1947. He held several jobs as a teen and in college including delivering papers, working in a tent and awning manufacturing plant, building railroad bridges, driving for a funeral home and serving as a night watchman.

At 18, Jack left home to attend Ball State Teachers College in Muncie, IN with the intent to be a math and industrial arts teacher. In 1951 at the age of 22, he enlisted in the Army and served stateside during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Army, Jack married Jean Price and attended Indiana Tech where he earned an electrical engineering degree.

Jack’s first job after college was as an engineer and national service supervisor for Franklin Electric in Bluffton, IN. In 1968, the family moved to Tulsa where he worked for a startup company, Oil Dynamics, a subsidiary of Franklin Electric. He also worked at Baker Lift Systems in Oklahoma City and Baker Hughes in Claremore.

Jack is best known for his Christian faith and heart for the service of others. He participated in numerous capacities at Bixby United Methodist Church and Claremore First United Methodist church, including teaching Sunday School classes, attending mission trips in Mexico and serving in the church’s Stephens Ministry. He also worked with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Volunteers for Youth Mentoring and Meals on Wheels in Claremore.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Richard, wife Jean and daughters Karen Weyler and Kim Spurlock. He is survived by sisters Sally Keith and Jane Perry, son Todd Weyler (Anne), son-in-law Keith Spurlock, grandchildren Andrew Spurlock, Brooke Lyons (Micah), Christine Smith (Maj. Antone) and Matthew Weyler as well as great-grandchildren Elijah, Finley and Margot Lyons and Emorie, Ryker and Caiden Smith.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, June 27 at First United Methodist Church in Claremore. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. No formal visitation will be held.
