Jimmie Lee Hicks

Memorial service for Jimmie Lee "Jim" Hicks will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 14, 2018 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel.  Jim passed away on Sunday, September 9th, 2018 at the age of 80.



Born in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Roy Leo and Maxine (Pace) Hicks, Jim attended school in Claremore, graduating with the class of 1957.  During his schooling, he enlisted with the Army National Guard and following his graduation, he began basic training.  He worked for a time with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority before making the Army National Guard his full time employment.  Later he began working with the Rogers County Sheriff and attained the rank of Undersheriff.  He left the Sheriff department in 1994 and worked for Glenn Sweet at the County Barn until retirement in 1996.



Jim loved being outside and spending time with his family.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.  He was also a square dance caller and he started the Oologah Country Couples Square Dance Club.  Jim loved music and he was quite good at singing karaoke.  He loved to barbeque and was famous for his sauce.



Those family members that survive include his wife Sherryl of their home in Talala, his daughters Toni Lee Hicks Johnson and husband Joseph of Rocklin, California, Christi Lynn Hicks Dowden and her companion Tim Cole of Owasso and Robin Velasquez and husband Fred of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren Tara Nichols, Durk Hoak, Tracy Shuey, Tacia Gardner, Megan Cocchi, and Sydney and Zoe Velasquez; sister-in-law Susie Hicks of Tulsa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dr. Ronald Hicks and great granddaughter Kennedy Shuey.
