The son of Willie John and Nellie Opal (Vaughan) Shouse was born August 5, 1939, in Watova, Oklahoma. He graduated from Nowata High School and Tri-County Technology Welding in Bartlesville in 1957. Soon thereafter he moved to New Mexico, where he worked on a dairy farm.
He was always a hard worker, and his work experience was varied. He worked for Phillips in Bartlesville, and Hawkins Construction in Kentucky. This was followed by 17 years as a welder, foreman, and superintendant at Peabody Coal Company in Northeastern Oklahoma. He also worked for 4D Energy, and for D&B Construction as an independent contractor. He was also a longtime cattle rancher, and a member of the Army National Guard.
Lee made many contributions to the community of Chelsea. He served on the booster club at Chelsea Schools, and also served as President of the school board in the 1970's. After working all day, he often drove the bus to his children's sporting events. He and his wife Raelene loved representing Santa and Mrs. Claus at many area churches and local events. He was actively involved at Northstar Church in Pryor, Cowboy Junction in Vinita, and various local food banks. Lee was always available to help a neighbor in need, particularly with welding help. His best advice was to never rope cows out of a moving truck.
In his spare time, Lee enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a better bowler than golfer, and had similar scores in both pursuits. He was also known to enjoy fishing.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Judy Arlene Shouse, and first wife Pearl.
Survivors include his wife Raelene; children Lee Ray Shouse, Jr. and wife Cathy, Suzanne Annette Welch and husband Elmer, Sr., Scott Paul Shouse and wife Dana Marie, Vickie Rose Hartman, Thomas Patrick "Pat" Shouse, Peggy Reihana and husband Kelly, Leslie Moore Head and husband Ben, Angela Moore Lewis and husband Jim, and Robert Moore and wife Cindy; sister Karen Jo Stockton and husband Bill; and grandchildren Catee Shouse Drake, Trey Shouse, Elmer Welch, Jr., Joshua, Cody, Tyrell, Jericho, and Jordan Welch, Amelia Shouse Morgan, Daniel Shouse, Robbie Hartman, Suzie Reihana, Kyle Head, Hannah Lewis White, Charles Lewis, Rebecca Lewis Ross, Doug Moore, Ashlee Moore; and numerous great-grandchildren.
