Lola Irene McMillen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral service for Lola McMillen will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022 at the Chelsea Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 1-8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Lola Irene McMillen passed away on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at the age of 83. The daughter of Roy "Vic" and Lillian (Whiteside) Burns was born May 21st, 1939 in Claremore, Oklahoma. As a young girl she was raised in rural Rogers county, in the Bushyhead community. She would attend Bushyhead schools and later Chelsea High School. There she enjoyed playing basketball, and was a member of the graduating class of 1957. A short time after graduating, Lola began dating long time friend Walter "Monk" McMillen. They would marry on May 7, 1960. Over the next several years Lola and Monk followed the pipeline work. They traveled all over the country working from Wisconsin to Texas and everywhere in between. However in the mid 1960's the couple decided it was time to settle down, and plant their roots. So they returned to their hometown of Chelsea. In the years to follow Lola and Monk would welcome a daughter Aloa into the family. Lola took great pride in taking care of her family, and was proud to call herself a homemaker. However after the passing of her husband in 1982, Lola would reenter the workforce. She would start out at Draeger's Department Store, followed by the Chelsea Reporter, then finished up her long career as a clerk for CEDA in 2007. In her spare time Lola enjoyed many things. She loved cooking, and the occasional trip to the casino. However it was her family that brought her great enjoyment. Especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vic and Lillian Burns; husband, Monk McMillen; brother, Chuck Burns and sister Leota McSpadden. Survivors include her daughter, Aloa Wooten and husband Mike; grandchildren, Tristan, Michael, Faith and Destany Wooten; great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Xander, and Cason; brother, Doug Burns, and sister, Juanita Brown, along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
