Margaret (Marty) Mary McNamara

April 23, 1945 — November 8, 2020

Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Margaret (Marty) Mary McNamara 75, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
She was born on April 23, 1945 in Claremore, Oklahoma, the daughter of Daniel James McNamara and Helen Lenora (Keithley) McNamara. Marty spent all her years growing up on the family dairy and cattle farm at Bushyhead working alongside her two brothers and sister.
Marty graduated from Chelsea High School in 1963 where she was an outstanding member of the Chelsea High School Green Dragonettes lady’s basketball team. Following high school, Marty continued her education at Oklahoma State University and graduated with a degree in Secondary Education in 1967. While there, she became a huge OSU football and basketball supporter.
Following graduation, Marty began teaching at Hamilton Jr. High in Tulsa and became a favorite teacher school wide. She taught Physical Education and Math, and during her first years, she attended Northeastern State University and received her master’s degree in teaching. Marty followed her passion for teaching and worked at Hamilton for the next thirty years.
Following her many years of teaching, Marty began volunteering at Franciscan Villa Retirement Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She started reading to those that were no longer able. Her compassion for others coupled with her energy did not go unnoticed. They quickly hired her as a part-time employee, and she worked there for several years.
Marty was a great deal like her father and mother. She never met a stranger and was a tremendously generous person to those she knew and didn’t know. Marty was so proud of her three nephews and her niece and throughout her life helped all of them with their college expenses. Throughout Marty’s life, she made it a huge priority to help her parents with all their needs and she traveled worldwide with her mother. She was much loved, and the pleasure was ours for having known her.
Marty was preceded in death by her parents Daniel James and Helen Lenora McNamara, her brothers, Daniel James McNamara, Jr., Patrick Kelly McNamara; cousin Sally Howe Smith of Tulsa and foster brother, Jeremiah Whisenhunt. Those family members that survive include brother, Michael John McNamara of Claremore, sister, Dr. Danette Boyle and husband Ron Boyle all of Tulsa, sister-in-law Penny McNamara of Claremore; nephews Christopher Michael McNamara, his wife Alex and their daughter Paisly McNamara of Collinsville, Kevin Patrick McNamara of Tulsa, Matthew John Boyle of Kansas City, Kansas and niece Kathleen Michele McNamara-Moallem and her husband Ehsan Moallem of Stillwater, and Michele Honeyman, mother of Christopher, Kevin and Kathleen.
