Max Baird Milner

July 19, 1937 — August 8, 2017

Max Baird Milner, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born July 19, 1937 in Allen, OK the son of Jonas Byrd and Lillie Shandy Milner.

Max was the second youngest of 18 siblings. Max excelled in many sports including football, basketball, baseball, track, and boxing. He graduated from Allen High School in 1956 and was offered several football scholarships before accepting one from Coffeeville Community College. He later graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1960 with a degree in marketing and business management. He then served as a member of the United States Airforce Reserve.

Max was married to Alice Marie Milner in 1963. They moved to Claremore, Oklahoma in 1967 and opened Milner Office Supply which he ran for 29 years before retiring. Max was also a member of the First Christian Church of Claremore, Claremore Rotary Club, Claremore Investment Club, and a charter member of the “Friday Night Guys” a group of men who loved traveling to watch sporting events followed by dining out afterwards at local area establishments.

Max was an avid fan of OU Sooner football. He also enjoyed following their recruiting well before recruiting web sites were popular. He gathered stats and player information by subscribing to numerous local newspapers and magazine subscriptions that were in the Sooner’s recruiting areas documenting player names, home town, position, and stats.
He laughingly told his children they could attend any college of their choice but he would pay for it only if they went to OU. Therefore, all three children attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma.

He was also a very savvy investor. He was self-taught and managed his own funds, was a long-time member of an investment club, and also volunteered giving investment seminars at the local college or library.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 10 brothers, and his wife Alice. He is survived by his son Trent Milner and his wife Holly Milner of Dallas TX, and two daughters Brook Low and her husband Andrew Low of Broken Arrow OK, and Dindy Banzet and her husband Jason Banzet of Tulsa, OK. Additionally, he is survived by his four grandsons, Carson and Sawyer Low, and Max and Sam Banzet as well as by brothers Don, Guy, and Fuzzy Milner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
