Wynona Louise Draeger

July 6, 1926 — February 21, 2022

Wynona Louise Draeger went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 21st, 2022 at the age of 95.
The daughter of Oral and Essie (Dawes) Grigg was born July 9th, 1926 in her family's home just outside of Chelsea, Oklahoma. As she became older she would attend a local country school before attending Chelsea schools. There she enjoyed cheer leading, and playing basketball. She was a member of the graduating class of 1946. Wanting to continue her education, she enrolled in Tahlequah, at what is now Northeastern State University. She would later return to Chelsea and begin working. She took a job working for Massey's Department store in town. There she would meet Roy Draeger. They would begin dating, and married on April 22,1952. In the years to follow Wynona would follow her heart and begin teaching. Over the next several years she would teach in the Catale area, and start an at home kindergarten in Chelsea. As the public schools began to grow, Wynona would support the local school and close down her at home kindergarten and head start program. This allowed her more time to help her husband at Draeger's, the former store known as Massey's, where they both had worked.
Over the years Wynona was involved in many things that kept her busy. Her family was always first. She made sure they were getting three square meals a day. During the holidays she worked endlessly making sure everyone's favorite dishes were made. The entertainment was also her doing. Her family remembers that most all get togethers ended with a hard fought game of bingo. She was also very community oriented, serving in many clubs, such as the Delphian, TOPS, and the Red Hat Society. She also served along side her husband, helping serve the communtiy through the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce. Wynona wore many hats throughout her life. No matter how you knew her, the one thing everyone knew about her was her love for the Lord. She wanted to make sure that all had the opportunity to know Christ. Through her church, First Baptist of Chelsea, Wynona served in many ways. She loved being in the choir, and taught Sunday School. She also served in the WMU, GA, and RA groups, and would volunteer her time for anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Oral and Essie Grigg; son, Gary Draeger; son-in-law, David Paris; great-grandson, Joshua Bear Smith; and brothers, Loral, Forrest, Alois, Bobby, and Ronal Grigg, and sister, Jaunita Harrell.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruetta Paris; daughter-in-law, Roberta Draeger; grandchildren, Cathy Williamson and husband Ben, Carrie Paris, Bryan Paris, Quint Draeger and wife Denise, and Jennifer Smith and husband Jack; great-grandchildren, Logan Draeger and fiance` Amy Milam, Allison, Carson and Jaclyn Draeger, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and church family.
