Albert Raymond Akerman

May 18, 1937 — April 22, 2012

Albert Raymond Akerman, 74, of Claremore, OK passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2012 surrounded by family. Al was born May 18, 1937 in Ramondville, Texas, the fourth of nine children to Patrick Frank and Lucy Mae (Canfield) Akerman. As a child his family moved to Shawnee, OK where he attended elementary school at Sr. Benedict's and graduated from high school at St. Gregory's. After serving in the Air Force, he moved to Oklahoma City and started his career for Aero Commander as a mechanical engineer. He later worked for CMI as an NC Programmer. In 1991he moved to Claremore and worked as a computer programmer for Centrilift until retiring. Al loved everything to do with airplanes and aviation. He took flying lessons and after acquiring his pilot's license he flew his family on many trips in his plane. After retirement, Al became involved in building and flying remote control airplanes and joined the Tulsa Glue Dobbers, where he met many good friends.

Al is survived by his wife Carol of the home; his daughter Sharon Ragsdale and her husband David of Meeker, grandchildren, T. J. and Josh Elliott; Diane Moore and husband Paul of Ft. Worth, Texas, grandchildren Tracy, Carrie, Aaron; Roy Maxwell and wife Cindy of Ft. Worth, Texas, great-granddaughter Danielle; brothers and sister-in-law, Pat, Jr., and Peggy Akerman of Edmond, Bob and Deloris Akerman of Chouteau, Charles and Julie Akerman of Shawnee, Jerry and Diana Akerman of Shawnee, Edward and Nina Akerman of McDonough, Georgia, sister Dorothy and brother-in-law John Harmand of Shawnee, sister-in-law Judy Akerman of Shawnee, lots of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Lucy Mae Akerman, sister Gloria Toner, brother James D. Akerman, granddaughter Stephanie Maxwell.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Home (Claremore) on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
