Julius Korgan

August 22, 1923 — February 12, 2017

Julius Korgan was born August 22, 1923, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Albert and Louise Korgan, the third child and only son. He passed to his rest on February 12, 2017.
As a young boy, he worked the family farm and attended a nearby one room school house.At age 15, he went to Oak Park Academy, a Seventh-Day Adventist boarding school in Nevada, Iowa.
He continued his education at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, graduating with his degrees in theology and history in 1944. While there, he met Evelyn Beebe and they were married in 1946. To this union, five children were born.
Evelyn and Julius accepted the first of several mission calls to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1948. Later mission assignments included Jamaica, Nigeria, and Canada. Intermittent stateside assignments included Iowa, Alabama, and Texas.Through the years, Julius served as Teacher, Principal, Department Chair, Academic Dean, and President of several Seventh-Day Adventist Colleges and Universities.
Retiring in 1980, Julius moved with his family to Lacey's Springs, Alabama, where he started his second career as a real estate developer. In 1987, he moved to Claremore to be near one son and daughter. His wife Evelyn passed away in 1990.
Julius loved to travel, and was frequently working on a trip while pursuing rental real estate in Claremore. During his lifetime, he traveled to all 50 states, most of Europe, the Middle East, Asia Minor, much of Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, Canada, and Australia, He was an ordained minister of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and was active in teaching as well as preaching.
In 1990, he married Joada McGehee, who preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by two sons: Douglas and Alan.
He was survived by son Dwight Korgan and wife Christine of Claremore, his daughters Heather Korgan and husband Mike Wagner of Claremore; and Barbara and husband Richard Olt of McAlester, Oklahoma. He was also survived by grandchildren: Matthew Korgan and wife Monica, Stephanie Drew and husband Joe, Andrea Balan and husband Cornel, and Zack Wagner. Also great-grandchildren: Avery, Andrew, Josiah, Penny, and Trevor.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Julius was held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 3:00pm at Claremore Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
