Funeral service for Mrs. Lila Warner will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Rodger L.B. Cutler officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Elm Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-7 p.m.
On Saturday, November 19, 2016, Lila passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 90.
Lila was one of seven born to Deacon John and Cora Bone in Lapine, Alabama, on March 14, 1926. She was raised in the church and her unwavering belief of God sustained her throughout her life. While her "roots" were in the Baptist church, she later became a member of the non-denominational, World Wide Church of God. In recent years she chose to visit and fellowship with a variety of denominations, as she would often state, "We are all one in the body of Christ". She was active in the choir and numerous church functions. Lila was an inspiration to many as a praise dancer who was often called on to share her spiritual renditions with various congregations and more. This was indeed one of her passions and truly a gift in her life. She met no strangers. Her loving and kind spirit drew many to her forming many relationships which would last decades.
She would wed James Warner on September 11, 1944, in Lapine, Alabama. From this union, seven children were born. Lila was a housewife and loving mother who put her children before all else. The family moved to Claremore, Oklahoma, in 1967, and quickly adapted to the "small town" atmosphere. Lila inspired, taught, guided us, handed down all her family stories, knowledge, and memories. This loving and caring woman made a difference in the lives of many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Warner; both parents; six sisters; three sons; and one grandson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Shirley Warner of Claremore, Janie Floyd and husband, O'Neal of Claremore, Ronald Warner and wife, Verdell of Tulsa, John Warner and wife, Wilhelmina of Ft. Worth, TX, and Junellen Warner of Tulsa; granddaughters: Rachel Floyd, Angela Floyd, Tia Stovall, and Sarah Vanorsby; grandsons: James Warner, III, and Quinton Warner; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
