Funeral service for Edna "Louise" Wolff will be 10 a.m., Thurs., Feb. 26, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Burger officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Adair, under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 3-5 p.m.
Louise passed away Tues., Feb. 17, 2015, at Autumn Wood at the age of 91.
The daughter of John Thomas and Emma Gertrude (Carter) Shaw was born Nov. 23, 1923, in a log home outside of Homer, LA. Louise attended Homer Public Schools and played basketball for the high school. Louise was introduced to Rudolph Herman "Rudy" Wolff by her Uncle A.L. They were stationed together at Camp Claiborne, LA, during WWII. It was love at first sight. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Homer on July 23, 1944, before he was deployed to Europe. When he was discharged they made their home near Chelsea where they worked the Wolff family farm for 8 years. In 1953, the couple moved to Claremore and established a laundry business. After 5 years of operating their business together, they decided to each take jobs in the private sector. Louise worked at various jobs, full time as a receptionist for Dr. Paul Baker, an optometrist, and finally as a clerk and cashier for Wal-mart for 17 years until she retired in 1988. Louise was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She excelled at cooking, sewing, and gardening. She loved her flower garden and canned what she grew from her vegetable garden. She was a folk artist who honed her skills at many crafts. Known for her beautiful quilts, sewing, crocheting and embroidery, her favorite was making baby quilts. She also loved music. When Louise was a child they enjoyed family get togethers where they all enjoyed playing their instruments. Louise played the pump organ and the piano. Louise was encouraged to join the Lutheran Church by her father-in-law, Gustav Wolff. She was a devout Christian demonstrating a strong faith in Christ Jesus her entire life. After her husband's death in 2007, Louise remained in her home for two more years and then moved to Detroit to live with her daughter, Linda.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; her parents; and her sister, Bessie Shaw Hill Grimsley Bush.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Linda G. Wolff Fryer and husband, Ross of Clinton Township, MI; grandchildren: Christopher David Fryer of Sun City, AZ, Carol Elizabeth Fryer of Roseville, MI, and Charlotte Yvonne Fryer McRae of Clinton Township, MI; and great-grandchildren: Emily Alana McRae and Grace Leigh McRae both of Clinton Township, MI, and McKenzie Autumn Fryer, Brennon Marshall Fryer, and Garrett Lauder Fryer all of Sun City, AZ.
