Funeral service for Marjorie Dean (Molly) Appelman was 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Plainview Church of Christ in Catoosa, OK. Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Willis Cemetery in Willis, Oklahoma.
Molly passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 87.
Marjorie Dean Appelman, the daughter of Scott and Gladys Massey Bridges, was born July 5, 1929 in Willis, Oklahoma. She attended schools in Willis and Kingston, Oklahoma, and Fort Worth, Texas, graduating from Snyder High School in 1946. Wanting to continue her education, she enrolled at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. It was there that she met Van Buren Appelman. In fact, she made such an impression on him that he eventually painted "Miss Molly" on the side of his '35 Ford. They would marry on July 3, 1948, in Snyder, Texas. Shortly after their marriage the newlywed couple moved to Norman, where Van attended the University of Oklahoma and Molly worked in the business department. A short time later, Van began working for Texaco. This would move the couple to many places such as Madill, Colgate, Chickasha, and many places in Illinois before settling in Catoosa in 1967. There she and Van were able to buy their first home.
In her spare time, Molly enjoyed many hobbies; sewing, gardening, and baking were just a few of her favorites. She also enjoyed playing games, such as bridge and dominoes. She was proud of her Chickasaw heritage, and enjoyed family and community reunions. She was a member of the Catoosa Historical Society and the Plainview Church of Christ. However, spending time with her family was what made her the happiest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Gladys, and two brothers.
Survivors included her husband Van, of the home; son, Ron Appelman and wife Shelly of Catoosa; grandsons, Jeremy Appelman and wife Kimberly of Catoosa, Justin Appelman and wife Kara of Panama City, Florida and Tyler Appelman of Woodland Hills, California; great-grandchildren, Cody Camp, Hailee Davis, Tragen Appelman, and Nixin Appelman; sister, Pat Bailey and husband Bill, and many other extended family members.
