Kenneth "Ken" David Brassfield

Service for Kenneth David Brassfield will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Claremore First Baptist Church, burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, February 4, from 1pm-8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm-8pm. Ken passed away at his home on Thursday, January 31, 2019. He was 72.

Born October 23, 1946 in Hayward, California to Bill and Marjorie (Caswell) Brassfield, Ken spent some years in Modesto area before his family moved to Oklahoma and settled in Claremore. Ken finished his schooling here and graduated with the class of 1964, he then attended Northeastern and graduated with a degree in elementary education. He later received his Masters Degree in administration from there as well. On October 6, 1967, Ken married Glennes Weber and together they raised 2 children.

Ken taught history at Bristow Schools, later he was principal at the Northeast Elementary, now Roosa Elementary. Then Ken began working for Tulsa Vo Tech as a counselor, retiring after 22 years of caring service.

Since the early 80's Ken has spent his life as a constant witness for Christ. He has been involved with First Baptist Church in Moore and later Claremore First Baptist with missions. While in Moore he worked with the prison ministries for Oklahoma City and later Rogers County prison ministries. He helped with the Baptist General Convention Disaster Relief and also was involved with the relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina. Ken has traveled with missions all over the world, Kenya, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine, Mexico City, Russia, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Latvia, and almost every place in the United States. He was also a Gideon. His witness touched many lives for the glory of God.

Hobbies included fishing and deer hunting, something he was able to enjoy this last fall. His most favorite time was being with his family and especially his grandchildren, who called him Poppy.

Those family members that survive include his wife Glennes, his children Karl Brassfield and wife Beth, and Trish Newton and husband Scott, all of Claremore, his brother Jim Brassfield and wife Carol also of Claremore; his grandchildren Madison Romaine and husband Josh, Natalie Calmes and husband Christopher, Caleb Newton, Emily Brassfield, Melanie Brassfield, Isaac Brassfield, Allie Newton, and Saydee Newton. Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
