In the weeks and months prior to her passing she was constantly surrounded by her loving family, she was never alone.
Marie was born on May 18, 1927 in Webb City, Oklahoma to Edgar Lee Hughes and Edna Hazel (Hall) Hughes. She grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated from Stillwater High School. She also attended Oklahoma A&M College (OSU). On July 4, 1945 she married her “soldier boy, “James W. Park, when he returned from battle in WWII. Together, they raised their three children in a warm and loving environment so typical of the “Happy Days” of the fifties and early sixties. Her life was always about family and the many friends who were like family. She survived breast Cancer twice and in 2008 was recognized as the longest living breast cancer survivor in the State of Oklahoma during the Susan B. Koman Walk for the Cure in Tulsa
Marie retired from Public Service Company of Oklahoma in 1984 after many years as a Customer Service Representative. Her compassion and concern for others served her well in her career and in her life. After retirement she and her husband were able to travel, enjoy grandchildren’s sporting events and doing volunteer work for Claremore Meals on Wheels and the Claremore Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She loved her garden, playing bridge, reading, quilting, sewing and trips to the casino. But most of all she loved having company…and the coffee pot was always brewing. She had a zest for life and never met a stranger.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lila Hughes, her husband of 48 years, James W. Park, granddaughter Lisa Rhea and son-in-law Robert A. “Bud” Rhea.
She is survived by daughters: Marsha Chisum and husband Michael of Claremore, Pamela Rhea and Wayne Slankard of Grove, and son, J. Mike Park and wife Carol of Broken Arrow. Grandchildren: Amy Lieberman, Ronda Jetton, Bo Fetterhoff, Becki Foster, Jeff Park, Jamie Park and Ashley Chisum, great grandchildren: Maggie, Tori and Max Lieberman; Justin and Jarrod Foster; Emily and Trey Fetterhoff; Brooklyn and Jessie Park and Madison and Park Roper; Addison Hulme and countless nieces and nephews.
She fought the good fight and will be greatly missed.
