A Memorial Service for Bill Hawley will be held Saturday, January 12, at 10:00 a.m. Location: Evergreen Baptist Church, 10301 E. 111th St. South, Bixby, OK, 74008.

William Russel Hawley, Sr., “Bill”, passed away peacefully in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on December 31, 2018, at 81 years old.

Bill was born in Tacoma, Washington, on April 28, 1937, to parents Marion and Ruby Hawley. His family included older sister, Marilyn Goumaz Tucker, and younger brother, Johnny Hawley, who died at age 7. Bill grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At 18, he married Ginger Honn in Tulsa, and they had four children. Bill and Ginger were married 29 years.

Bill is survived by his children, Kathy Fleig of Edmond, OK, Kristi Razack and husband Tareek, of Castle Rock, CO, Billy Hawley, Jr., and wife Amy of Tulsa, and Kerri Thompson and husband Randy of Peoria, AZ. Bill is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Blane Rhoads and wife Charlotte, Brett Rhoads and wife Ella, Stephanie Moses and husband Sam, Christopher Schedler and fiancée Rebecca, Cory Schedler, Collin Schedler and wife Katie, Adam Hawley, Sarah Hawley, Josie Hawley, and Sedona Thompson. Great-grandchildren include Ruby Rhoads and Tristan Schedler, and two are on the way -- one to Blane and Charlotte, and one to Collin and Katie! Bill is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Tucker, of Claremore, OK, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Bill is preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Hawley, his mother, Ruby Lee Hawley, and his father, Marion Hawley.

Bill loved playing baseball and basketball as a young man and was always a sports fan. He served in the Air National Guard for four years after high school, and he worked as a pipeline draftsman for many years. He later worked several years as a Security Guard and enjoyed interacting with people in that role. Bill and his family faithfully attended and were active in church. He was a dedicated choir member and participated in various other singing groups including a men’s quartet. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. They inherited his passion for sports and could depend on his enthusiastic presence on the sidelines. Bill also loved dogs and had many throughout his childhood and adulthood. Bill was a caring and loving father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend! Bill was known for being kind-hearted and compassionate, often visiting church family members who were ill or in need of a friendly, caring smile. He was also known for his sense of humor, and he loved having a good time and making people laugh.

Bill sincerely appreciated the support he received from Counseling & Recovery Services of Oklahoma, which helped him manage his bipolar disorder, and continues to make a positive impact on others living with mental illness.
