Alan Spencer Bailey

Retired Staff Seargeant Alan Spencer Bailey passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 74.

Alan was born on May 8, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Homer and Marie Bailey. He grew up in Tulsa and attended Springdale and Central Public Schools. Following high school, Alan was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and attended Certified Scrub technician schooling.

After completing his initial military service, Alan attended Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. His desire to serve his country continued, and he returned to the Army, ultimately dedicating a total of 23 plus years to military service that included active duty in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During his Army career, Alan was deployed to several countries around the world as peace keeping missions where he served as an Army Medic with the 145th Infantry division of Oklahoma National Guard Medical Co.

Following his military career, Alan worked as a surgical scrub technician for many years At St John Medical Center. He was known for bringing his own personality to the operating room, including his trademark jump boots, which he proudly wore while working in the OR. On February 16, 2002, he married Mary whom he met at St John and they had been married for 23 years upon his death.

Alan had many interests and passions. He loved the desert and cacti, and his dogs, Pearl and Star, held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed spending time at his shooting range and was an avid shooter. Alan also had a generous heart and was especially giving to the Lakota and Sioux Indian tribes, whom he cared deeply about. Additionally, He was notorious for purchasing any disabled person’s meal while dining out.

Family was especially important to Alan. He loved his wife and daughters, Melody and Suzie, dearly as well as Eli who lived with him in the home.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Marie Bailey.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Bailey; his daughters, Melody and Suzie; his stepchildren, Alex, Eli, and Shannah; along with a host of extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Alan will be remembered for his proud military service, independent spirit, generous heart, and, most of all, the love he had for his family. His life was one of service, adventure, and devotion to the people and causes that mattered most to him. Rest in peace.
