Arthur Yahola Goad
December 31, 1934 – May 1, 2025 | Age 90
Arthur Yahola Goad, lovingly known as “Coach,” passed away on May 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Stidham, Oklahoma, to Lotzie Henry Goad and Bessie Faye (Walker) Goad, Art led a life dedicated to education, family, and community.
He graduated from Sands Springs High School and began his higher education at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and later earned his master’s degree in Education from Northeastern State University. While attending NEO, Art met the love of his life, Diann. The two were married on June 23, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, and shared a long and loving life together for 54 years.
Art began his teaching and coaching career at Watts, OK before settling in at Chelsea Public Schools in 1965. He left a lasting legacy both on and off the field. Known for his commitment to his students and athletes, Art was deeply involved in the educational and athletic communities. His contributions were recognized through numerous awards and honors. He was a proud member of the Oklahoma Coaches Association, the Oklahoma Education Association (O.E.A.), was chosen as a coach for the North All-State football team in 1980, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame in 2018.
Outside of his career, Art enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. His passion for teaching and coaching continued until his retirement in 1993. He was admired for his dedication, integrity, and the positive impact he had on countless lives.
Art was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diann; his parents, Lotzie and Bessie Goad; his son, Robert “Bobby” Goad; and his son-in-law, David Smelser.
He is survived by his children: daughters Andrea Goad (Smelser) and Tammy Boatman and husband Gary; and son Tim Goad and wife Robin. He is also survived by his sister, Bettie Gaines, brother, Nicholos Goad, and many other family members. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Skylar Boatman and wife Brittany, Taylor Boatman and fiancé Cash Carver, Keaton Goad and wife Michelle, and Payton Goad and fiancé Derek Lapore; as well as one great-grandchild, Parker John Goad.
Art will be remembered as a dedicated educator, a loyal friend, and a devoted family man. His strength, wisdom, and warm spirit will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Chelsea Alumni Association, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, or Northeastern State University.
