Barbara Gwen Johnson

December 15, 1935 — September 8, 2025

Claremore, Ok

Gwen Johnson passed away September 8th, 2025 peacefully surrounded by her children.

Gwen was born in Couch, Missouri on December 15, 1935. Her family moved to Claremore in the early 1950's. Soon after graduating Claremore High School in 1953, she met the love of her life, Buck Johnson. They married in 1955 and built their entire lives in Claremore, with the exception of a short move to Woodward. Gwen began working as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell, which at that time was located in the Streeter Building in downtown Claremore. She worked her way up the ladder and retired as upper management with ATT Tulsa, with over 25 years of service in 1985. In her retirement, Gwen was well known in the community for baking sweets during the holidays. She would take orders and work around the clock baking pumpkin rolls, pies and cookies. She and Buck enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home and later a larger 5th wheel. They tended huge, beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, she canned and preserved food. She was an avid reader and in more recent years loved word search puzzles. Their home was (and still is) the hub of the family. Everybody met up at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Gwen was an excellent cook and very generous. No one left her house hungry or empty handed. She was loving, nurturing and always concerned for everyone's needs above her own.

Gwen was preceeded in death by 2 children, Wade (1963) and Janelle (1979), Most recently, her best friend and love of her life, Buck Johnson. Buck passed in January of this year, one day after their 70th wedding anniversary.

Gwen is survived by her children and their spouses Karla Botts (Corky), Dewey Johnson Jr (Becky) and Andrea Duncan (Paul). 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be private at a later date.
