Bette Cranor (Curtis) Gentry, 87, a longtime resident of Marianna, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Born on March 23, 1939, in Memphis, Tennessee, Bette was the beloved daughter of W.F. “Bo” Curtis, Sr. and Mary Cranor Curtis. She graduated from T. A. Futrall High School in Marianna, Arkansas, in 1957 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Ouachita Baptist University in 1961.

On June 1, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jack Roger Gentry. Together they shared more than sixty years of marriage marked by unwavering devotion, deep faith, and steadfast commitment to family until his death on November 14, 2021.

Bette devoted her professional life to education and to nurturing young minds. She taught English for many years at Lee Academy in Marianna, Arkansas, where she inspired generations of students through her love of literature, high standards, and gentle encouragement. She also taught Bible classes, sharing her Christian faith with countless young people.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Marianna, Arkansas, Bette sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for many years, and actively participated in the life and ministry of her church. She was also a dedicated member of P.E.O., serving faithfully as secretary.

Bette found joy in creating a beautiful home, decorating, gardening, boating, and especially cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events and activities. She was known for her gracious spirit, warm hospitality, and unwavering love for her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, J. Curtis Gentry and his wife, Susanne H. Gentry, and Scott C. Gentry and his wife, Kristee H. Gentry; her grandchildren, Mary Gentry Lay (Jackson), William Gentry, Grant Gentry, Josh Gentry (Morgan), Jack Gentry, and Bo Gentry; two beautiful great-granddaughters, Olivia and Finley, and many beloved extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Roger Gentry; her parents, W.F. “Bo” Curtis, Sr. and Mary Cranor Curtis; and her brother, W.F. “Bill” Curtis, Jr.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Briarcrest Christian School, Eads, Tennessee, or First Baptist Church, Marianna, Arkansas.

Bette’s life was a testament to her enduring faith, love of learning, and dedication to family and community. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom, hospitality, and Christian service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know and love her.
