Betty Jean Reed

Funeral service for Betty Jean Reed will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Sageeyah Baptist Church. Pastor James Rehanek will officiate.

Betty Jean Reed passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the age of 93.

The daughter of James and Irma (Gair) Richardson, Betty was born February 20, 1933, in Simla, Colorado. She and her family later moved to Missouri, where Betty would meet Robert G. Reed. The two began dating and were married on May 17, 1950. Together, they moved to California and began raising their family. Their family would eventually grow to include five children, and for many years, caring for and raising her children was Betty’s primary responsibility.

In the early 1960s, Robert’s job transferred him to Tulsa, Oklahoma. The family would make their home there until moving to the Sequoyah area around 1967. During this time, Betty began working outside the home. She worked as a waitress at several establishments and also at Safeway Grocery before beginning her career at St. Francis Hospital. During her 23 years at St. Francis, Betty held several different positions before retiring as a nutritionist.

Betty enjoyed many things in her spare time. She loved watching NASCAR and sports on television, but nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren. Their activities became an important part of her life, and she loved being there to watch and support them in everything they were involved in. She was their biggest fan and cherished every opportunity to be a part of their lives.

Betty also had a special love for animals, especially cats. She found joy in the simple things in life and treasured the time she was able to spend with her family and those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Irma Richardson; her son, John Reed; and her brother, John E. Richardson.

Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her children, Roger Reed and wife, Dawn; Glenna Steidley and husband, Larry; Teresa Walkingstick and husband, Mike; and Robert Reed and wife, Kaye; her grandchildren, John Daniel Reed, Wes Viddavrri, Cari Lynn Manton, Michael Reed, Michelle Reed, Elizabeth Owens, Laur Beaman, Jeremy Reed, Jason Reed, Jennifer Barth, Jodie Pyle, Robert Steidley, Michael Walkingstick, James Walkingstick, Stacey Lowyns, Robby Reed, and Kevin Reed; her sister, Jamie Crabtree; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Betty will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy was her family, and the love and memories she shared with them will continue to live on in the generations she leaves behind.
