Born to Robert and Belle Docherty in Birmingham, AL, Bobbye grew up in the Pratt City neighborhood and frequently spoke of her childhood there with great fondness. She graduated from Ensley High School in 1950 and immediately entered the workforce with the City of Birmingham. She had several jobs including secretarial work, cosmetic sales, and eventually real estate.
In 1957 Bobbye married the love of her life, Jack Mooney, on their way to an Auburn football
game. Bobbye and Jack reared three boys and remained married and very much in love for 63 years. In 1965 Bobbye and Jack moved to Tulsa, and in 1971 to Claremore, where in 1973 they started Steel Service Company, which celebrates its 50th year in business this year. Bobbye became involved in a number of organizations during her life in Claremore. She served as president of the local Pilot Club, volunteered with the Salvation Army, and was also on the board of the RSU Foundation. Bobby was also active in the First Presbyterian Church of Claremore, serving as an elder and volunteering for various programs at the church.
Bobbye also enjoyed bowling and playing golf. She even raced stock cars in Tulsa for a brief period. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching baseball and football. OU was her favorite college team, and she seldom missed a televised game. She also enjoyed watching the winter and summer Olympics. Bobbye and Jack also enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas, Reno, and eventually local casinos. Bobbye had an uncanny ability to strike a Royal Flush on video poker machines at local casinos.
Bobbye was a woman of great compassion, empathy and generosity. She was a friend to many and a devoted wife and mother. She is preceded in death by her son Mark Edward Mooney and her husband Jack. She is survived by son Chapman Mooney of Claremore, Robert Mooney of Tulsa, granddaughter Rhonda Howell of Claremore, great-granddaughter Emily J. Mooney of Kansas City, and great-grandson Sawyer Howell of Claremore, and sister Jane Anne Moore and her husband Alan of Bluntsville, TN. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Cindy Rickard and her husband Jim of Strang. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
