Carl, a beloved brother, husband, Daddy, Papa, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 89.
Born on November 29, 1935, in Mayes County, Oklahoma, to Clyde and Emma (Rippetoe) Martin, Carl led a life characterized by dedication, kindness, and a spirit of service. Carl's education began in the local schools where he graduated from White Oak. He furthered his academic journey at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, pursuing studies to become a draftsman. This foundation laid the groundwork for a varied and industrious career. Carl worked for a time with Coca-Cola in Tulsa before being drafted into the Army, where he honorably served his country. Upon his return, he resumed his work with Coca-Cola and later joined ONG, eventually embarking on a fulfilling welding career, ultimately retiring from C E Natco.
Known for his kind and caring nature, Carl was always ready to lend a helping hand. An adept problem solver, he had a knack for fixing all things that were broken. He was a comforter of all hurts and pains, and he was an ever-present role model for his family, consistently encouraging them and ensuring their needs were met. This unwavering support and love can never be underestimated. He was a jokester, a teacher, a playmate, and a friend.
On June 21, 1958, Carl married his beloved wife, Jessie Irene Seely, at the parsonage of Washington Baptist Church. Their marriage was marked by mutual respect and devotion, forming a partnership that became a cornerstone of their family life.
Carl's passions extended beyond his professional endeavors. Hunting, with his bird dogs, was his favorite pastime, but he also enjoyed exercising his creative side by coloring and drawing, building toy boxes, barbie houses and anything else his family needed built. Nothing brought him as much joy as the time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was known to cheer on his beloved Cardinals baseball team and had a penchant for reading a good western book, which provided him much enjoyment. He loved movies (especially westerns), music (Don Williams was his favorite), and had a soft spot for animals like the baby squirrels he saved and nursed back to health. They became his pets, and he named them Whiskey and Frisky. He loved his horse, Flicka, and his bird dogs.
Carl Richard Martin will be remembered mostly for the love he shared with those around him and the lives he touched. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and memories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
