Carolyn Sue Coon

Carolyn Sue Coon was born Sep. 24, 1943. Her parents T.D. and Velma Butler raised her in Crawford, Oklahoma where she married her high school sweetheart Jack Coon on June 18, 1960. Shortly after marriage the couple lived in Germany until 1964. After returning to the U.S. they settled in Claremore, Oklahoma where they raised two sons, Mike and Bruce Coon.

Sue was the consummate homemaker and mother. When her boys were both of school age, she worked numerous retail jobs around Claremore including Walker Brothers Furniture, Melton Sales, and Madalan's Hallmark. Her passion was collecting antiques and decorating with them. Most Saturdays you would find Sue at the Tulsa Flea Market or other antique outlets with her friends.

Sue's nickname was "Mama Coon". While unsure of how that began, she embraced the name and insisted that her boys' friends called her that. She even had a license plate proudly displaying that she was "Mama Coon".

Sue is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jack Coon. She is survived by son Mike Coon, son Bruce Coon, daughter-in-law Stephanie Coon, and granddaughter Kristin Coon.
