David Michael Mullikin

David Michael Mullikin passed away on July 16, 2026.

David was born Leonard William Mullikin Jr. on May 21, 1959, in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Blanche Marian Crane Mullikin and Leonard William Mullikin. Following his birth, Blanche experienced serious complications that left her paralyzed and required an extended stay at Claremore Hospital. During that time, newborn David lived with his grandparents, Alvin and Nora Mullikin, along with his sister, Cindy. After many trips to the hospital, the family was joyfully reunited when Blanche regained her ability to walk. David always held a particularly special place in his Grandma Mullikin’s heart.

The family moved from Claremore to Tulsa while David was still a baby and later settled in Inola in 1965. He began first grade in Inola and remained there through his graduation from Inola High School.

David joined the United States Navy in 1978 and completed his initial training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, on April 25, 1979. After completing his training, he served alongside the United States Marines as a hospital corpsman, earning the lifelong nickname “Doc.”

David completed two tours of duty in Beirut and was present during the bombing of the airport. In the aftermath of the bombing, he provided emergency medical care and assisted with surgeries, helping to save many lives. Although his actions demonstrated extraordinary courage and skill, the memories of that day remained with him throughout his life.

David served aboard the USS Nassau alongside thousands of sailors and Marines. He had an exemplary military record and received numerous medals, awards, and letters of commendation. He was deeply proud of his service and loved his country.

Outside of the military, David loved dogs, motorcycles, and the freedom of the open road. He made several trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He was also a talented runner who competed in track and set state records.

David shared a close bond with his sister, Cindy. As a baby, he could not pronounce her name and called her “tis-ter.” Over the years, that became “Sister” and eventually “Sis,” but he never called her Cindy.

He also treasured time with his niece and nephew, Misty and Ashton, often stopping by to take them “cruising for some goodies.” David gave Misty her very first dance at Jack and Blanche’s wedding on November 29, 1981—a memory that remained special to them both.

David is survived by his daughter, Jannell Sanders Zimmerman and her husband, Brad; his grandchildren, Elisha, Bedellia, James, and Alexander; his sister, Cindy “Sis” Eaton and her husband, James; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is also survived by his devoted caregivers, Pete Pryzbylak, Jennifer Doss, and Mary Doss, whom he loved and considered family.

David’s life was not without struggle, but it was only one part of his story. He will be remembered for his ornery sense of humor, quick wit, courage, and the unmistakable personality that made him “Doc.” Those who knew him will remember the laughter he brought, the stories he shared, and the many ways he left his mark on their lives.
