Donald Dean Green

May 19, 1936 — August 28, 2025

Chelsea

Donald Dean Green passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born on May 19, 1936, in Wagoner Oklahoma, Don’s early years were spent in the Sequoyah area before his family moved to Cherokee Central. When the state acquired the family farm for the development of Oologah Lake, Don eventually found his way to Chelsea Oklahoma. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1955.

It was around that time he met Margie Stamps. The two began dating, and on September 17, 1956, they married, beginning a journey together that would span nearly seven decades. They first made their home in Winganon before heading west to California, where Don worked on the construction of the state’s massive aqueduct systems. Eventually, they returned to the Centrella area near Chelsea, where Don turned his attention to farming and heavy equipment work.

He spent several years helping build roads and bridges before going to work for Peabody Coal Company. He stayed there until the operation closed down. Don never shied away from hard work, and his hands were always busy—whether it was operating machinery or working the soil in his garden.

Gardening brought him a special kind of joy, especially growing tomatoes—he planted nearly 300 each year. When he wasn’t in the garden, you could often find him at Bowlin’s, sharing coffee, conversation, and a good game of dominoes with friends. He also had a lifelong love for the outdoors, and he looked forward to every hunting and fishing season.

As much as he enjoyed his hobbies, it was his family that brought him the greatest joy—especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and laughter.

Donald is survived by his wife, Margie Green; children, Ray and Mary Green, Rita Carter, Kay Jones, and Jeff Green; Grandchildren, Micah and Mary Green, Paige and Joe West, LaQuesta Most, Aubrey and Mark Whaley, Mariah and Kevin Hutchens, Amanda and Jeff Carter, Brittany and Grayson Sutton, David Stephenson and Amber Green; and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orvil and Elsie his brothers Jr and Cotton and granddaughter Jordan Henry.
