Edward John Niedermaier Jr.

Edward (John) Niedermaier was born in 1930 in Oklahoma City. He grew up near Norman, OK, where he attended Norman High School and met his future wife, Eyvonne.

Prior to thier marriage, John served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Tokyo during the Korean War, where he worked as a radio operator and sent and received messages by Morse code. He and Eyvonne corresponded by writing letters during the war, and were married upon his return in 1952. They were married 69 years and raised 3 children.

John earned his accounting degree by taking night classes at Oklahoma City University while working full-time doing general ledger accounting at AeroCommander in OKC. While working at a later job at Dorsett Electronics, he was transferred to Tulsa. He continued to hold various accounting jobs until his retirement from a controller position at Worthington Industries, Claremore, in the mid-1990s.

After his formal retirement, he and his wife managed several rental homes they acquired, which kept them both active. John learned how to be his own handyman in many ways. During this time he also kept his accounting skills fresh by doing tax preparations and books for several individuals and businesses.

Hearing stories was a common thing when you were in John's company. The stories ranged from memories of times spent with cousins at his grandfather's farm to mischievous pranks with his cousin, Dalton, and maybe even stories of seeing Bob Hope while he was stationed overseas. Tales were also told about working at a florist shop or Sooner Theatre in Norman while he was in high school.

Some of his favorite pastimes were watching/listening to OU football games, more recently OU softball, gardening, and for much of his life, early morning daily walks.

Spending time with his family was special to him. He was a good listener and would remember all the happenings in his children's and grandchildren's lives, and kept memory books of momentos and special moments.

His church family was also an important part of his life. He attended First United Methodist Church in Claremore until he was unable to do so, but continued to stay connected by watching services online. He served the church in various ways. Sometimes he would secretly polish the brass offering plates because he thought they needed to look nice. He was active in his Sunday School class for many years and would provide his homemade cookies for his class "just because". It brought him joy to learn how to make a meringue pie and deliver it to someone from church.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Berry (husband, Ron) of Gainesville, FL; son John Niedermaier of Claremore, OK; daughter Denise Bond (husband, Greg) of Tulsa, OK; and grandchildren Jonathan Berry (wife, Lauren) of Jamaica Plain, MA; Christopher Berry of Orlando, FL; Grant Bond (wife, Olivia) of Scottsdale, AZ; Jenny Bond of Yukon, OK; and great-granddaughter Lila Rose Berry of Jamaica Plain, MA.
