Service for Ella Chasteen will be 10:00a.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.  Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, January 8, from 2pm-8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm-8pm.  
Ella Marie Duncan Chasteen passed away on January 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 29, 1942, in Claremore, Oklahoma, Ella was the daughter of Ludy Reavis Hilbert and Alvin Walter Shatto.

Ella spent her formative years attending schools in Tiawah and Inola. On November 30, 1959, she married the love of her life, Richard Vernon Duncan. Together they built a beautiful life in Foyil and raised five children. Throughout her life, Ella dedicated herself to being a wonderful homemaker. She took pride in creating a warm and loving environment for her family.

In addition to caring for her family, Ella enjoyed many hobbies that brought her immense joy. She found solace in painting and crocheting and had a talent for creating and writing stories. A lover of soap operas, Ella would often immerse herself in the captivating narratives that unfolded on the screen. She also found pleasure in canning fruits and vegetables from her garden, fishing on peaceful afternoons, and baking delicious treats.  Ella treasured spending time with her family and friends.

Ella was a devoted preacher's wife who actively embraced her role within the church community. Her devotion to spirituality was evident through her commitment to teaching Sunday School lessons with warmth and passion.

Left to cherish Ella's memory are her children: Rex Duncan and his wife Tina, Randy Duncan and his wife Joyce, Roger Duncan Sr., and his wife Eva, Veronica Hendricks and her husband Nathan; stepchildren Merlin Chasteen and Hope Toler; fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren, her siblings, Bobby Shatto and Kenny Shatto, Patricia Littlefield, Carolyn Lanier, Kathern Warson, Debra Rasmussen, Cricket Anderson, Sharen Miller, Kathy Shatto, and Donna Driskell. Ella was preceded in death by her mother Ludy Reavis Hilbert, her father Alvin Walter Shatto, stepfather Fred Hilbert, stepmother Delsa Shatto, husbands Richard Vernon Duncan Sr. and Roy Randolf Chasteen, her son Richard Vernon Duncan Jr., daughter-in-law Dona Duncan, brothers Fred Hilbert Jr., Alvin "AJ" Shatto, Danny Ortner, and sister Freda Leach.

Ella Marie Duncan Chasteen's legacy is one of love and devotion, she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of being part of her life.
