Irma Dean McKinzie was born July 17, 1935 in rural Bushyhead, Oklahoma. Irma attended Sequoyah school through 3rd grade, Bushyhead through 6th, and then Chelsea schools. She married J.L. Harrison on January 21, 1952. She was an excellent seamstress, creating tailor-made clothes for several RCB employees, wedding and bridesmaids gowns, uniforms for Catoosa cheerleaders, many of her children's, nieces and nephews and grandchildren's clothes and possibly more than fifty quilts on her Brother sewing machine. She also created professional quality wedding cakes for countless people, and innumerable birthday cakes for family and friends.
She was Cub Scout Den mother, President of the Fire Fighter's Auxiliary, and a 10-gallon blood donor. She would babysit any child on a moment's notice. While other children would bring home stray dogs and kittens, Randy and Kathy would bring home friends having a rough time at home and Irma welcomed them with open arms as long as a safe haven was needed.
Irma passed away in her home on April 1st at the age of 74. She was the daughter of James Wesley McKinzie and Lela Mae Lewis McKinzie, the 8th of eleven children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Danny Joe, sister DeLois McClish, brother J. W. McKinzie, special brother-in-law Joe Harrison, brother-in-law Johnny Raffety, and stillborn twin brothers, Noel and Lowell.
Survivors include husband J. L. Harrison and daughter Kathy of the home, son Randy Harrison and wife Betty of Claremore, sisters Atha Raffety and Carmen Harrison of Claremore, Mae and Jim Craig of El Cajon, California, Tabitha and Harold DeLay of Catoosa, brother and wife R. L. and Earlene McKinzie of New Castle, California, and Roger McKinzie and friend Don Weed of Millilani, Hawaii. She is also survived by four granddaughters, one grandson, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
