James Roy Hancock “Chipper”, 80, of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed peacefully in Tulsa March 17, 2026.
James was born on June 29,1945 to Roy and Charity Ruth Hancock in rural Tiawah, Oklahoma.
James graduated from Claremore High School in 1964 and pursued a 41-year career in the Cement Business. Chip worked for the same company his whole career just outside of Claremore.
James was married to Kathy Snyder for over 20 years and during that time they had 3 children. James later married to Andrea (Pat) Crews from 1992 until her passing in 2017 and cherished his 2 bonus kids. After Pat’s death, James enjoyed spending time at the senior center playing games of dominos or puzzles, often making new friends. It was at the center where he met his companion, Susan Johnson, who he spent many of his last years with.
Chip was an avid lover of dirt track and drag racing, attending many events in Tulsa. He loved to watch his son Dale’s team race or visiting his son Randy at Tulsa Raceway Park. He was never bored long as he loved to tinker with things in his garage also. He also could not pass a Harbor Freight store without stopping to see what was on sale.
Chipper is survived by his sons Dale & Lisa Hancock of Claremore, Randy & Ellen Eschenbacher of Claremore, and daughter Debra & Jay Wheeler. Chip also leaves behind his brother Jimmy (late Delores) Hancock, and sister Lorene (late John) Cheney. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins along with beloved kitty Tommers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy & Charity Ruth (James), wife Pat, longtime companion Susie, brothers Gene, and sisters Doris (Adams) and Grace (Lobemeier).
Visitation will be at MMS Payne Funeral Home in Claremore, Oklahoma on Thursday, March 19th from 1pm-7pm, with family visitation from 5-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in James' name to either Okie Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 2905, Claremore, Oklahoma 74018 or Racers for Christ, 1303 South Longmire, Suite 7, Mesa, Arizona 85202.
