Joe Bert Willhoite

May 11, 1947 — April 11, 2026

Claremore, Oklahoma

Joe Bert Willhoite, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on April 11, 2026, leaving behind a life that was as gentle as it was joyful.

Born on May 11, 1947, in Claremore, Oklahoma. Joe was the son of Virginia Bell Willhoite, a strong and devoted mother whose resilience helped shape the man he became. He carried that strength throughout his life, never seeking attention, yet leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Joe served his country in the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. Upon returning stateside, he was stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana—where fate stepped in and introduced him to the love of his life, Debbi. From that moment forward, theirs was a partnership that others admired and cherished. Married in 1971, Joe and Debbi built not only a life together, but a love story that never lost its spark. He never dulled her shine; instead, he delighted in it, faithfully bringing her dreams to life. If Debbi could imagine it, Joe could build it—something beautifully reflected in the many homes they renovated together, each one a true showstopper. Together, they opened those homes to others as well, hosting beloved home and garden tours that drew visitors from near and far, eager to experience the beauty and creativity they so naturally created.

In 1972, Joe began his career with the Claremore Fire Department, serving his community with dedication until his retirement in 1999. Even before retiring, he had already begun building another legacy—this time quite literally. Through Willhoite Development, alongside his brother John Richard “Dick” Willhoite, Joe became a respected residential home builder from 1998 to 2009, known for his craftsmanship, integrity, and pride in a job well done.

But more than anything, Joe will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He was simply funny—naturally, effortlessly—and always found a way to make those around him laugh. He kept life lighthearted, reminding everyone in his presence that joy could be found in the everyday. He lived in a way that left no harm in this world—only kindness, laughter, and steady love.

Joe was an extraordinary husband, a devoted father, and a proud papaw. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbi Willhoite; his daughters, Christine and her husband Kendall Kihega, and Jodi Willhoite; and his cherished grandchildren, Molly Day (husband Steve Toth), Sierra Kihega (husband Pierce Pyrzenski), Josie Day,m Dax Gilner, Winifred Day, Shelby Kihega, Blake Prelesnick, and Mae Prelesnick. In July of 2025, Joe welcomed his great-grandson, Callahan Toth, into this world.

He is also survived by his brother, David Lloyd Willhoite, as well as many nieces and nephews who brought him great pride and happiness. The family also holds dear the bond he shared with his brother-in-law, Darrell Dennis, who was like a true brother to him and part of so many of life’s moments.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Bell Willhoite, and siblings James Edward “Jim” Willhoite, Martha Sue Koster, John Richard “Dick” Willhoite, Katherine Nell Grubbs, and Mary Ann Dennis.

The family will honor Joe’s life in a private gathering at one of his favorite places—the family land where he spent countless days enjoying nature, a place that brought him peace and simple happiness.

Joe didn’t make life complicated. He enjoyed it, laughed often, and made sure the people around him did too. He saw the good, stuck to what mattered, and loved his family in a steady, unwavering way. That’s how he’ll be remembered.
