Josephine Elane Green

Josephine Elane Green, 84, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026. She was born on June 21, 1942, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma, to Samuel and Bertha Frye. Josephine was one of 14 brothers and sisters.

Josephine and her family lived in several communities, including Bluejacket and Pitcher, Oklahoma, before ultimately settling in Nowata, Oklahoma. It was at Glees Cafe in Chelsea, Oklahoma, where Josephine met the love of her life while working alongside her sister, Shirley. On July 29, 1961, she married Robert Joseph Green Jr. Together, they made their home in Nowata and began raising their family.

Josephine was a devoted Christian woman who loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing the Gospel with others. She was a faithful member of Nowata First Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Sew to Sew Mission with her eldest daughter, Brenda.

Josephine had many interests and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved watching a good Western movie, especially those featuring Robert Mitchum and Audie Murphy.

Throughout her life, she worked several jobs, including as a truck driver, at Belmar, the Nowata Sewing Factory, and the Nowata Printing Company. Of all the roles she held, however, her favorite was being a homemaker and caring for her children.

Family meant everything to Josephine, and she devoted her life to the people she loved.

Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Joseph Green Jr.; her parents, Samuel and Bertha Frye; five brothers and five sisters; her children, Larry Green, Roger Green, and Bobby Jo Green; and her granddaughter, Lacey Crause

She is survived by her children, Robert Green, Joseph Green, Brenda Turner, Robin Wilson, Kimberly Green, and Tammy Heape; brothers, Sammy Frye and David Frye; sisters, Shirley Belden and Bernice Kay; She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, along with cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish her memory forever.

Josephine will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and the many lives she touched throughout her 84 years. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
