Josephine Teehee was born on November 11, 1938, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Joe and Isa (Tubby) Bell. She spent her early years in the Pearl River Community before moving to Oklahoma at the age of 15 to attend Tahlequah Sequoyah Indian School. After graduating in 1956, she pursued nursing school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and eventually chose to work at Claremore Indian Hospital.

In Claremore, Josephine met Franklin Teehee, whom she married. Together, they built a life in Claremore. However Josephine did spend a short time in South Dakota for further schooling to become a scrub tech. After completing the scrub tech training, Josephine returned to the Claremore Indian Hospital.  She became the top choice for many of the surgeons.  She retired in the mid-1990s after 37 years of service.

Josephine was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served in various roles including treasurer and choir singer. She enjoyed watching wrestling and Family Feud, working puzzles, cooking her famous yeast rolls, making dresses, and singing in the native praise choir. She had a playful sense of humor and loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Josephine is preceded in death by her parents, husband Franklin Teehee, son Franklin Teehee Jr, sister Naoma Bell, grandson Jeremy Chisholm, and nephew Benjamin Bell.

Survivors include her sons Danny, Buddy and his wife Melinda, and Roger and his wife Karen; grandchildren Taylor, Minnie, Kyleigh, Celsie, Samantha, Kiyah, John, and Rachael; great-grandchildren Leonel, Azrael, Emerlynn, Wasapi "Bear," Aiden, Addyson, Aaliyah, Bella, Maverick, and Novah; and brother Alvin Thomas and many other extended family members.
