A service for Karen Smith will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit at the funeral home on Thursday, August 6, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Karen passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born on November 5, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Everett and Jossie (Lewis) Dick, Karen later moved with her family to Claremore. She graduated with the class of 1965 and went on to attend business school. On December 5, 1965, Karen married Kenith Edward Smith. They began their life together in California before moving to Kansas in 1970 and eventually returning to Claremore in 2013.
Karen dedicated many years to her family as a stay-at-home mom before embarking on a 28-year career as a medical transcriber in Kansas and Oklahoma.
Outside of work, Karen found joy in reading, knitting, cross-stitching, and other crafts. Her home was a welcoming place for children, where everyone enjoyed her generous spirit and delicious snacks. She cherished her role as a grandmother, finding immense happiness in time spent with her grandchildren.
Karen leaves behind her children, Stacy Lynn Arnold and husband Lynn, Tracy Scott Smith and wife Vicki, and Angela Janae Atkinson and husband Chuck. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jacob Arnold, Jonathan Arnold and wife Leah, Stephanie Hunt and husband Caleb, Erin Smith and husband Jr., Jossie Maston and husband Colton; along with 15 great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Charles Wayne Dick and wife Bessie, Marvin Dick and wife Beth, and DeAnna Leigh and husband Doug, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, also mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Jossie Dick, her husband Kenith Edward Smith, and her brother Dennis Dick.
